RE-FINERY

This bench is our entry piece for SALVATIONS 2011. It is a juried furniture competition sponsored by the local Green Project and Dwell Magazine. We entered the first year they held the competition and won in Best Chair category. The competition requires that at least 90% of the materials be recycled. In this case we started with the old photograph below, found at the Green Project a few months back. It is most likely an oil refinery in its early years somewhere in southeast Louisiana. Using the enlarged photo mounted on wood as part of the back rest we built from there. Incorporating old wooden finials from house de-constructions, our own stash of old red pine barge board, and some seriously great vintage flocked wallpaper (also found at Green Project years ago) we got to work.

All the pieces will be displayed at Canal Place and Design Within Reach here in New Orleans for 3 weeks and the winning pieces will be auctioned off at a big party on April 16th! Come join us and take home a great one of a kind piece of furniture!
